Türkiye’s First Offshore Wind Measurement Mast Installed in Aliağa

İzmir is referred to as the ‘capital of clean energy’ among stakeholders due to its potential in clean energy, especially wind energy, and its clustering of equipment production for the sector. With the aim of advancing the clean energy and clean technology sector, the İzmir Development Agency continues its ‘İzmir Offshore Wind Measurement Project’ in collaboration with İzmir Institute of Technology. As part of the project, a 40-meter offshore wind measurement mast was installed on Küçük Ada located off the coast of Aliağa. Data collection on the region’s wind capacity has begun with the sensitive devices installed on the measurement mast. The data collected over one year will be shared with the sector, contributing to the development of necessary modeling for offshore wind sector in the region. Thus, investors will have access to information on potential areas for offshore wind farms in İzmir.

As the İzmir Development Agency, we aim to host the first offshore wind farms expected to be established in the near future in İzmir, the first province in our country where wind turbines were initially installed. We thank everyone involved in this pioneering work for our country and the sector.
