
09 Apr 2025 Zero Waste Project Introduction Meeting was Held
The implementation model of the “Bornova Zero Waste Project”, which is carried out in partnership with İzmir Development Agency, Bornova District Governorship and Bornova District Directorate of National Education, with the support of Egeçev Waste Management, Habitat Recycling and Tetra Pak companies, was introduced at Suphi Koyuncuoğlu Anatolian High School with the participation of İzmir Governor Dr. Süleyman ELBAN.
The meeting started with the opening speeches of Dr. Süleyman ELBAN, Governor of İzmir, Dr. Mehmet YAVUZ, Secretary General of İzmir Development Agency and Muzaffer ŞAHİNER, District Governor of Bornova and continued with the project information presentation. Following the meeting, the participants visited the “Waste Collection Point” established at Bornova Suphi Koyuncuoğlu High School and the “Workshop on Making Instruments from Waste” conducted by the sound artist Herman Artuç.
In the project implemented in three pilot schools, Bornova Suphi Koyuncuoğlu Anatolian High School, Bornova Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Bornova Fatih Sultan Mehmet Primary School, a “zero waste management system” was established, which ensures that waste is collected separately at source and converted into economic value. With the training programs and awareness activities organized within the scope of the project, it is aimed to raise sustainable consumption habits in students.
