03 Mar 2020 22 Projects Signed to be Supported by our Agency
Operating under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, our Agency signed a grant contract for 22 projects across Izmir to commence in 2020. These projects are entitled to receive support within the scope of the “Social Development Support”, the “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity and Competitiveness of the Private Sector, Financial Support,” and “Küçük Menderes Basin Sustainable Development Financial Support” Programmes. Erol Ayyıldız (Governor of the Province of Izmir), members of our Agency’s Board of Directors, and officials from the project beneficiary institutions attended a signing ceremony that took place following the Agency Board Meeting.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ayyıldız, who also happens to be the Chairman of our Agency, stressed that 22 projects will contribute to Izmir’s economic and social development and will be funded via a grant of TRY 18,000,000. He also noted that they are very much pioneering, will benefit many in a grand and rippling manner.
Support for Sustainable Agriculture
Approximately TRY 11,300,000 will be diverted to 11 projects to be implemented in the districts of Bayındır, Beydağ, Kiraz, Menderes, Ödemiş and Torbalı under the wing of the Küçük Menderes Basin Sustainable Development Financial Support Program. The goal of these projects is to implement sustainable agricultural throughout the basin. Within the scope of this program—the predominant beneficiary of cooperatives established in the basin—several leading high impact projects will be implemented, from milk tank distribution, water treatment, and drip irrigation, to innovative greenhouses and tissue culture-based seedling production.
Support for Developing the Private Sector’s Institutional Capacity
Approximately TRY 4,000,000 will be distributed across 9 projects within the scope of the “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity and Competitiveness of the Private Sector Financial Support Program.” It is hoped that digital transformation, sustainable production, integration of value added supply chain, and common infrastructure will meet the needs of Izmir’s many firms. Within the scope of this program (in which the private sector is the main beneficiary of umbrella organizations), many high impact projects will be implemented, from a mobile digital caravan program, which will digitally transform SMEs, to the establishing a gemology laboratory, much needed by Izmir’s jewelry industry.
Support for Social Development Projects
Lastly, approximately TRY 2,700,000-worth of financial support will be distributed between 2 projects, both of which centrally managed by the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, and locally coordinated by various agencies under the wing of the Social Development Support Program. Projects to be carried out by the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Family, Labor, and Social Services as well as and the Izmir Drug and Addiction Association, activities will focus on rehabilitating and reintegrating disadvantaged groups into the labor market.
